Many business owners hate QuickBooks. In my book, it is not the best bookkeeping software. One problem is that it can be hard to use. Another problem is that it allows untrained bookkeepers to make a total mess of their books.
QuickBooks is the dominant bookkeeping program used in America. It is the five hundred-pound gorilla. It is usable in well-trained hands. So what do you do if QuickBooks is not working for you? There are three choices here: 1) Spend hours and hours studying and practicing and become a QuickBooks expert. 2) Hire a QuickBooks expert to do your bookkeeping for you. 3) Learn a different program or hire an expert to use a different program.
If you are a successful businessman, it is probably a waste of your valuable time to do your own bookkeeping. Once, I knew a successful entrepreneur who was closing over two million dollars a year in sales who spent two hours a day on bookkeeping functions that turned out to be worthless. The tragedy is not that he had to spend a few thousand dollars to fix his books. The tragedy is spending all that time doing bookkeeping when he could have been selling or otherwise running his business.
